We withdrew the story 10 minutes after it ran on the Reuters wire. Cn.reuters.com, our Chinese language website, didn't run the story. But due to a technical error with our U.S. site, www.reuters.com, the story remained on the site for several days, and caused confusion among our readers.

Reuters has now deleted the story in question from our global information network, and would like to take this opportunity to apologize to our readers. We will continue to stand by our principles of accuracy, speed and freedom from bias in delivering news and information to our global readers.
