train
By LIALEXANDER | 7/7/2006 6:51:47 AM

My personal favorite is train when travelling between the cities, it is so much nice if you are not in a hurry.
because the landscape is changing a lots in China, and you get a chance to see a real china.

However, there are number of things you need to know,
never get a slow train, it stops every tiny station
get one with air condition in the summer
get a first class ticket so you have own spaces, better services.
food on the train is not great and expensive, so bring enough snack if you going on a long trip.

Train trips
By GERALDINE | 7/8/2006 3:53:08 PM

Taking the trains through China is a great way to see the countryside and to meet locals. We travelled all the way from Beijing in the North to Guilin in the South using the trains- easy to get tickets even without the language and a wonderful experience- take a phrasebook and have lots of laughs with the locals trying to converse!! It certainly wiles away the long hours on the trains. Take lots of food with you as the train food can vary in degrees of edibility at times- especially for a foreigner- found the noodles to hot to eat!! The trains are great for overnight travel- no accomodation costs and covering a far distance in the process.

Cycling
By KEVINWARDCFC | 7/2/2006 11:18:11 AM

China is known around the world as the land of cycles. And rightly so - whether for economic or other reasons. I find that cycling is splendid, healthy, leisurely way to get around. No need to bring a cycle into the country - there are plenty for hire.

Communication
By KEVINWARDCFC | 6/27/2006 10:55:57 AM

Many visitors in China pride themselves on their struggle to speak in Chinese - and rightly so. But on my recent visit I developed a little trick that helped me enormously. When I foresaw a need to communicate - shop, taxi, booking counter - I asked a friend to write my needs on a piece of paper in Mandarin. I simply showed my paper to the person concerned and I got just what I needed. It saved a lot of painful sign language.

Should I fly or simply take buses?
By ALMOND | 6/21/2006 9:23:58 AM

For my personal experience, I would say it's much better to take buses if you think you have plenty of time to do so. Though it's such a pain in .... to sit on buses for hours, it's worth it to do so as you'll get to see how people in each town differently live lives when buses stop for a brief break.

Try it!, especially if you're one of those people out there who have strong interest in people, nature, and cultures!

Pick Pockets
By KEVINWARDCFC | 6/18/2006 2:06:28 AM

When one arrives in a tourist destination, especially late evening or night, one is accosted by young men waving and offering busines cards, with photos of scantilly clad ladies who are in the flesh trade. Those foolish enough to fix their eyes on the card wil notice - too late, alas - that their bag or pocket has been violated and lightened. Beware of these young men and also of the ladies in whose interests they ply their trade.

my experience on taxi ride in Shanghai
By WHATALOVE | 6/16/2006 10:47:56 AM

Dial 96965,96822,96961,96840 or 62580000 for taxi reservation, coz they are big companies, or have the hotel do it for you.

The cars in blue(Dazhong)is the best, and followed by orange and light green ones which are always good.

Do not forget to ask for a receipt when you get to your destination.

Call 962000 to complain if the charge is unreasonable.

If you encouter any troubles or emergency, remember the license plate number and dont hesitate to dial 110 for calling the police immediately.

Dont believe in the tout drivers.
