Be Prepared to Take Lots of Photos

Shanghai is a photographers dream. There are great photo opportunities around every corner. Bring plenty of film or memory cards. The contrast between the old and new is at times, startling. I don't think you will find architecture like this anywhere else.

Getting Around the City

Don't drive in Shanghai unless you are a local. I thought traffic was bad in California, it's can't hold a candle to city driving in Shanghai. Hire a taxi, ride a subway, bus or walk. Your nerves will thank you.

ERA-Intersection of Time

Guess who I met?! Tom Cruise! We both went to the acrobatic show 'ERA-Intersection of Time'. The show is so good, romantic and breathtaking, and full of Shanghai Culture too. It won't end till 2010, so don't miss it if you are in Shanghai.
Maybe it's because of Tom that night, everybody seems so excited. Great great night, and great great show from Shanghai!

the Yu Yuan Gardens

If you go to Shanghai, you must go to the Yu Yuan Gardens. You must take a tour of the garden itself. There is a small fee to walk through it but it will be worth it. There is no fee to walk through the shopping areas and if you want to pick up any gifts this is one of the places to buy them. You can bargan with the seller to get a good deal. There is a lady there who sells hand painted eggs and puts them in a frame. They are beautiful. They are worth picking up. There are also many restaurants you can eat at, from Chinese food to western food like a McDonalds. The visit to the gardens is well worth spending a few hours there.

Free Soul perfect place for hangout in Shanghai

As you walk into some dingy local bar with rather dubious looking girls lurking in the shadows, you may feel that you're selling your soul to the devil. But a bar nestled on the more respectable (Yanan Xi Lu) end of Fahuazhen Lu aims to change all this by freeing your soul with good company and a homey atmosphere. The affable manageress Sky says she wants to create a bar that's essentially a home away from home. And in many ways it is. Customers often take over the music system, choosing from the eclectic selection of CDs, while the amicable, English-speaking staff, converse with customers like friends.
Despite being open only a few weeks, this two-storey establishment has already attracted a growing band of regulars. The bright, airy downstairs bar area, despite having somewhat uncomfortable park-bench seating, ropes clients in with its fooseball table. While upstairs, the bar is fitted out with comfortable sofas and opium-style couches surrounding a pool table. The reasonably priced drinks keep people coming back, with shots and cocktails around the ?0 mark, beer ?0. If you're taking it easy on the alcohol, the bar brews up a surprisingly large selection of coffee - definitely a place for all sorts of souls.

um...sometimes, although i'm in SH, i have no idea when staying with my friends. Why? Because i don't know where we can have fun. I think it's a common problem most people have.
However, my British tutor surprises me a lot. She knows many interesting place in Shanghai.She told us a bilingual website called 'xonnected.com' which collect many places' information. so, I think serching a local website to guide you is very very important.

Hey, One of the major problems that I faced while travelling in china is not knowing chinese. Asking directions or hailing a cab or ordering in a retsurant is a big pain. I tried this service called www.chinahelpline.com...you can call 021-6100-9700 from anywhere in china and get connected, they have wonderful staff who help u in giving orders to anyone in chinese. just tell them what you want to tell the driver or waiter in english and they will converse with the person in chinese and make them understand , its pretty cheap also compared to hiring interpreters or getting robbed or wasting time. I just loved it .
