Kebabs in the muslim quarter
By GERALDINE | 7/27/2006 9:49:53 PM

A must do visit in Xi'an is to have kebabs in the evening in the muslim quarter. As evening sets in, the muslim quarter comes alive with a plethora of food stalls creeping out on to the streets. The smell of coal burning is everywhere and the kebabs are a delight not to be missed!! All sorts of meats- watch what you get! The smokey coal taste permeates through the street and the kebabs and they are just delicious! While eating them you will have your own free entertainment as you watch the cooks working over the hot coals and then delivering vast handfuls of seering hot kebabs to the tables- a true delight!!

Warror Photos
By SEQUIM | 6/30/2006 8:04:19 AM

At least as of June 2006 photos and video ARE allowed. Flash is discouraged. Past the entrance wall to Pit #1 tripods are banned, so I wish I'd brought my monopod for the low light -- also to see what discussion would occur regarding the "mono" vs. "tri" pod.

(Also -- for U.S. videographers, my experience with some 50 cycle lighting causes flutter with NTSC.}

Getting around in Qinling Zoological Park
By PEA28COCK | 5/8/2006 4:34:44 AM

In the park, you can take free bus to have a general view of almost all the wild and ferocious animals in the park. Of course you have to show your park ticket before you get on this free bus.

There is battery cars which you have to pay 5 Yuan for every time you take them. And again if you want to take the 'little train'in the park you need to pay an extra 10 Yuan. Walk is also a good way to enjoy the animals and natural sceneries, though a little bit tired.

Remember to keep the ticket when you are in the park, because you can enjoy some free performance based on this ticket.

Qinling Zoological Park
By PEA28COCK | 5/8/2006 4:13:00 AM

If you want to go to Qinling Zoological Park, there are three bus routes.

You can take 320 at the Gig Wild Goose Pagoda to get to the park directly.

You can take 321 at Nanmen stop (South Gate Stop)to Weiqu Xijie stop and then change to 320 to get to the park.

Still you can take 322 to the last stop and then change to 320 to get to the park.

There is only one bus No.320 heading for other places in Xi'an. Therefore you'd better end your trip in the park a bit earlier to avoid the swarms of people.

Good luck.

Shuttle bus
By JAZZ | 1/26/2006 5:57:02 PM

I got caught with the "shuttle bus" trick. A tour guide we had signed up with said the group of other tourists scheduled on our trip to the Burried Warriors had cancelled and that they would put us on another shuttle. It turned out we had to wait for about 2 1/2 hours for the shuttle to fill up.

As the bus filled up, some of the first passengers got off - they were planted there to make the bus appear full so more people would think "this shuttle will leave pretty soon."

Then it drove around with the ticket seller hanging out the window trying to drum up some last minute business!

The bus stopped at heaps of dumb places on the way there and the way back. A group of Chinese people got so fed up that they demanded their money back and got off. They caught a public bus.
