Part 2 – Please read from Part1

After that incident, we were very careful. At another popular attraction in Nan Shan Big Buddha where you can see the Buddha view from the sea, the local guide from the temple tried to apply similar tactics. This time round, we were prepared. When we were touring the temple, they tried to hand some lotus lamp to us. we refused to take as we know they will force us to pay once we took it. I saw some other unfortunate tourists taking it and was asked to pay RMB 99. My brother overheard two temple helpers secretly congratulating each other at a corner when the groups that they led were all holding the lamps. I bet they must be very please with making sales to unwitting tourists.

Another con place is Li Tribe Village. They would pull man into the hut and asked you to take part in the wedding ceremony. If you said no, all the ladies would pull you in and tried to dress you up and then extort money from you.

I hope this should as alert travelers to be careful and not fall prey. They normally target foreign tourists and not those Chinese tourists from other provinces of China. Everyone hopes to have a good times when they go for holidays and not to have their holidays ruined in Hainan Island or Hai Dao Island which means “Pirate Island” in Chinese.
