I wanted to find out if anyone knew what the prices were like for hostels in Beijing during Chinese New Years? I am planning on being there from January 28th - Feb 5th (29th is New Years) and wanted to know how crazy prices will be. Would trips to the great wall be really expensive as well?

Also I am looking for recommendations for hostels in Beijing. I am looking for something cheap, close to public transportation, and with internet access.

When should I make reservations for a hostel for new years?

Alright those are all my questions at present

peace

Well, the prices of hotels won't be crazy at all during the Chinese New Year if not much cheaper than usual time. All the Chinese people will stay with family if possible and businessmen won't do much business at that time, so there the foreigners will not stay at the COLD hotel. It is also the low tourism season at that time. Reservation or not is not so important if you know which you are heading for, you can do that just in case.

The trip won't be more expensive than usual.

Good luck!

Peace:)

During the chinese new year, although businessmen won't do much and people would like stay with their family, but it will still be travel peaking time for other city people, they want to come visiting capital.but if you are looking for Economical accommodation, how about in private home?if you are interested in studying Mandarin or learning Chinese culture. You can take the unique opportunity to stay with a traditional Chinese family.I can help you to find out,for more information, please contact:hotmail.com|lucyw93

Aha!

I think to say Chinese New Year is "travel peaking time" will mislead people.

stay in a family, you can have your own room, don't need share a room with others.the service including 1. accomodations; 2. 24 hours' hot shower; 3. weekly laundry; 4. Chinese language tutorship (if you require); 5. internet access; 6. color TV and English channels; 7, destination guide. to be helpfully!
young hostel you have to sleep with at least 3people.that's not good enough for someone else.
