Anyone have any ideas for 10 days to be spent in Suzhou and Shanghai over Christmas? Is there snow? Trying to get away from a western festive season with its rank consumerism...hopefully! Cheers

About the weather, normally you wont see a lot of snow - but Januar this year there was a freezing cold time with snow and frozen lakes... Be prepared for cold weather!

if you want to shop then Shanghai/Suozhou great a good places to shop but you've got to be shrewd you you'll get ripped off big time. So you love crowds and consummerism. Well you sure have chosen the right place. Do let us know what you think of Xmas/New year in China. It really is 'something else' for a festivity they officially do not celebrate. Place to visit include the Bund, the old French concession in Old Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuxi, Tai Hu and Zhouzhuang. While all the above mentioned places are all worth seeing try to make some time to get out into the Jiangsu country side where there are lots of old villages and you'll the real rural experience adding another dimention to your trip that many people often miss on catered tours. And yes it will be cold.
