| From 'ugly duckling to beautiful swan'. Chongqing has been getting a face lift for a while now and it was finally revealed several months ago that it is in preparation for this Summit. Dispite many of these things needing to be upgraded anyway, there's been a huge push during the past 18 months to have it all finished in time. It's been awesome to watch an area transformed in a matter of a few days while other areas have taken months or years to finish. If you haven't been here in while you won't recognise the place. A new international/domestic airport Whole districts been demolished - the old and the ugly Unfinished buildings at least look finished from the outside New roads and new street lamps, new medium strips, new overpasses and new subways New street signage Bare concrete buildings painted and tizzied up Older buildings given a new traditional facade now looking old Older commercial buildings given new modern facades All for three days to impress visiting Majors and entreprenuers from around the globe. But all good news for everyone living here. One interesting aspect of recent months is the number of incredibly clear, blue sky days we've experienced. Generally a rare occurance, many are curious if it will be clear for the Summit?? |
