How to go from Harbin to nearest Russian city?

We are going to visit friends in Harbin next year in July. While we are there we would like to visit Russia, even just for a day! Does anyone know of the nearest town or city, how to get there and what are the requirements regarding visas etc..?

I think you can take train from Harbin to Suifenhe,and than across the border,arrived Pogelanivicn(sorry,I don't know it english name).

Train No.:N23,from Harbin 21:32,arrived Suifenhe 6:30,about 9hours,14mins.
Another way,you can go there by bus, I think about 6 hours.

I don't think Suifenhe has an airport,it is a very very very small city only 30 years old!So I think the bus or train is the best choice!you can sleep in the train,and travel one or two days,return Harbin.
