| Hi Andy, if you are into history and culture, a convinient stop between Beijing and Xian would be DaTong, once capital of the WEI. Famous for the beautiful Hanging Monastery and the UNESCO world heritage of the Yungang Caves, those places are a MUST. I took a Hard Seat for 6h and 46 Yuan. From Datong to Xian there was a Hard Sleeper for 130 Yuan. For more details check my travel report and accomodation tips. Another interesting stop would be PingYao, a complete city just like in ancient times or Taiyuan, but I havent been there yet. Enjoy your trip! |

| Hey Andy! Xi'an is one of my most favorite cities in all of China. It's got a great mix of old and new. Of course you've gotta check out the Terra Cotta Warriors...that's pretty cool and just standard Xi'an touristy stuff. If you are able to do a little bit of travelling outside of Xi'an, I would go to the city of Luoyang...still in the same province. They have something called the Longman Grottos. It's like a million Buddhas carved into stone walls. It's an impressive site, and in my own opinion, worth the short trip. YOu can just make a day trip of it, as I'm sure you can find a bus to take you there and back. I highly recommend it! |
