I'm currently in the process of deciding whether or not to toake up the offer of a teaching position in Guilin. Can anybody tell a bit about what its like - and if the pollution is all that bad...

Guilin is one of those places that most people have heard of in China and want to visit. It has a pleasant climate, beautiful scenery and it's not too big a city. It's also easy to travel to many other interesting places nearby. Do a search here for information or other websites and forums. Although much of the information here is on Yangshou near Guilin you can get some idea what it is like.
for afirst job in China is is a 'soft' option as there are many foreigners living and traveling thru the area.
Pollution - You'll get it everywhere but much less in Guilin.
