ANDREW65 Points: Join Date: May 1, 2005 Status: offline	Hi, I am planning to visit Chengdu and as I am an Australian Citizen I need a tourist visa. I understand that I also need a "Letter of Introduction" from the people I plan to visit / stay with in China. Is there a standard form letter available in Chinese that would satisfy the Chinese Consulate in Sydney ? My friends in Chengdu speak very little english and I am having trouble explaining to them that I need a Letter before I can visit them. Any comments would be welcome as I am a bit confused about this regulation. Andrew

Hi Andrew,
A lot of people visit China and all they provide is an itinerary of where they will visit.

I've had friends and family come over and all they have supplied the Embassy in Canberra is an email copy of my invitation to visit me and a rough, and I mean rough draft of our itinerary. This has been sufficient if you are just coming for a short visit. i.e less than a month or six weeks.

Just ask you friends in Chengdu to write a letter saying that they would like you to visit them and include thier address. You may already have this????? If you are not travelling, just a simple letter with address in chinese would be OK obviously since their English is limited.

Ask for a week longer than you want to stay just in case.

CROBERTOJR Points: Join Date: Aug 11, 2005 Status: Offline	Hello, You don't nead this kind of letter if you want only a tourist visa (L). You need only to show a flight or hotel booking. The letter is necessary if you want to visit China as a business man or searching work. Have a good trip.

I don't know the regulations in full, but it seems strange to me that you need this "letter of introduction" to enter China for less than 2 months.

If that is the period of time you will stay, less than 2 months, then a rough itinery of cities you will visit should be sufficient. That's all i needed to provide and there was no problem. It could have been a lie for all they knew.

If you are staying longer than the 2 months allowed on a tourist visa, then i'm not sure on the situation.
