We, 4 wheelchair users from Malaysia planning to go to Chiang Mai and after that, to kunming. Other than the direct flight by Thai air on Thusday and Sunday, is there any alternative like bus or train ?

Thanks and regards

Dear Christian,
Good on you for taking on this challenge. Having travelled in China on both buses and trains I don't think you'll find them too user friendly to be honest.

On a train you could have a four berth soft sleeper but to move around on board with your chairs would be nigh on impossible.
Buses, well it's a long haul and it's hard going when you're able bodied.

Will you have any assistance and do any of you speak Mandarin?

Sorry not to be more positive. Maybe someone else can shed a bit more light on some possibilities for you. All the best.

i doubt it is a good idea to travel by bus or train to kmg from cnx. might not even be possible or worth the savings. flying is still the better option. in kunming, i am sure most adequate stars hotel would do anything for their guests, but for tourist class, hotel camellia should be good. they have mini ramp from where the taxi drop off to the lobby and to the lifts. airport is also wheelchair friendly but you do need others who are not on wheelchairs to come with you all, dont you?

Dear Jabarootoo,

Thank you for your concern.

We understand your worry and concern but we just would like to take up the challenge. A bit difficult to get the personal assistant go with us for 14 days, so, we thought hire a personal assistant over there. Is this possible ?

As for the trip from Chiang Mai to Kunming. Only realised that the direct flight only available on Thu and Sun. Even though we will reach Chiang Mai around 11am (Thu), we are not sure whether got available seats for us to fly to kunming by 14.25pm flight. That is why we need to think about alternative ways.

Dear Ethniceast,

Thanks for the hotel information.

Of course it will be better to have non person with disability to travel together. But, unfortunately we can not find one. Anyway, we still will go ahead with our plan.

Regards
christian
