Hi folks

I am arriving in China in a few days and travelling throughout China/Tibet for two months.Should I open an account at the Bank of China and withdraw from ATM'S. I am a little concerned carrying a large amount of cash.I understand that some of the remote areas will not have banking facilities but will compensate for this when necessary.
Am I being a little neurotic? maybe, perhaps?

That really depends on where you are going to visit. For the major cities, Credit card is acceptable in most of big stores. And as a back packer, that maybe means that you are in budget travel. Do prepare some cash in case. And it could save your comission whilist you withdraw cash from Banks.Like anywhere in the world, always keep your cash safe.Good luck.
p.s. you may open a account in a bank. but if you travel to another city, commission is still charged.

Hi there,

I dont know where you are from, but Bank of China cooperates with many international banks. So check your home bank first. It is very convinient to use the ATMs in China, it already works for normal bank cards, not only credit cards from banks in Europe.
Opening an account in China just for hoildays is not necessary.

But I would always take some traveller cheques in addition, just in case.
