| Hi there, I have just checked the latest relevant regulation and maybe you will find the following information useful: Less than 5,000 us dollars without any limitation; 5,000 – 1,0000 us dollars you have to declare to the custom when entering China; More than 1,0000 us dollars you have to get the certificate of holding foreign currency from relevant bank. I am a local working as an translator in Kunming, if you need any further help, feel free to contact me at yahoo.com.cn|walter_myway |

| So it should be okay if I declare 15,000 thousand u.s. dollars? Will they ask me what I am bringing the money for? If I tell them it's for medical reason would this be okay? I will definitely email you in Kunming if needed. Thanks for you help! |

| i believe the medical institution would have advise you the amount you are bringing, so just show the letter. if you declare, you need to have all the supporting documents for that matter. otherwise bring 3 or more credit cards and withdraw from the bank of china in kmg. or tt to someone you know in kmg. custom is a very tricky place in china and the folks there are very "inexperience and not knowledgeable of possible situation and sometimes just want to insist you follow their lead" for some reason. most of them probably has very minimum traveling experience and have not seen the world or encounter travelers with special needs. |

| What I suggest is to get the certificate and relevant surporting documents. I think there won't be lots of trouble./Walter |
