 | Sharksfin soup is such a delicasy and so much so that the chinese (Japanese or whoever consumes sharksfin soup) are being blamed for the possible extinction of many shark species. But surely the blame should fall squarely on those who killed (definned) the sharks. If there is no supply, there is no sharksfin soup. So who is at fault?  |

| Exactly, Wocca. If people pay crazy money for ivory, Sharksfin and so on.... those unique species (which cant be bred!) will get hunted down. If you want to "gao" you can use other stuff! |

| Paying an obscene price for the delicasy is dumb. Who knows they may be getting gelatin soup instead. Unscrupulous businessman have been known to substitute sharks fins with gelatin strands. Well, he is one hell of a smart guy......make a pile of money and also save the sharks. |

| dont forget the efforts to protect a species of the animals, plants or birds also need fund and chances are they will get it from the business people and well wishers. you think governments will help financially? secondly, some of us write as though we are non-asians with our asian cultures; food and beliefs. dont just gullibly read those reports about why we shouldnt eat sharkfins soup. if it is about sentiments, i also have problem eating veal. we should be update about the situation of the embargoed ivory in africa and how they can help the economy there if something else is allowed to be done. one need to be very careful when trying to be an activist of some sort. get the proper perspective and contextualised the matter. that is why i feel that travelling helps the frog to get out of the well and see what the real world is..... "if you climb the mountains, you will never see the plains"  |

| 1. Selling Ivory never helps the African economy, only the criminal person in the back - not the people who shoot them. 2. Protected animals are no food anymore. Point. 3. If chemical medicine helps better to "gao" than use it instead of extinguishing the unique species. Our children might want to see those animals, too, and not only read about them in books. |

| 1. there are now tons of ivory in africa storehouse that cannot be traded and millions are starving there. economy must be generated throughout the world, not just to protect the interest of certain country. 2. any species only need protection when they are depleting, we might as well protect chicken since they are being culled by the hundreds of thousands across the world, hopefully your posterity can see them before they are gone.  |

| Easy answer: Every animal you can breed - you can eat. Animals that cant be bred and are close to extinction have to be protected, so that maybe your children can eat them again later, if their number rises again. If you eat the last one, your children will never get to know the delicious taste;-) There are tons of stored cocaine and heroine, too. You would make a lot of money selling it;-) Why they dont sell ivory? Because if you drain the market, banish it completely, than maybe the fashion will disappear with it. |
