It's just happened yesterday with my friend. My friend wanted to buy Cannon digital camera. The Hong Kong salesman tried to push sales on Fuji digital camera (the same model with you). With the belief on what salesman said "This Fuji model is better than Cannon", she bought the Fuji digital camera at the price of 2100 HK dollars without price survey. After a while, she went to check the price from the shop nearby (not on Nathan Road). The price of this Fuji digital camera is 1400 HK dollars. The price is too much different, so we went back to ask the reason why it's too different. The shop owner still lied to us that his camera has multi language function which that shop has not and he did nothing. After we said that we will call the police, he gave us a memory chip (256K). This shop is located on Nathan Road between Imperial Hotel and Holiday Inn Hotel, opposite to Hyatt Regency. If you do not beleive on what I post, please try to buy any non Fuji camera there. They will push sales to Fuji digital camera with the highest price.

You can report this to the HK consumer affair (or similar governing body). Look like it is another of the old trick on the new products. Take great caution when shopping in those electronic stores around JimShaTsui and MongKok. Back in the old days when we used to go to HK to shop for cheap electronics, in particular Walkman. We would managed to bargain (hard) to the lowest price we could find available for a particular Walkman model, and only to find out: "what we see is what we get", ie. All other accessories were not included, even the earphone and batteries (for a Walkman), let alone the warranty, recharger, leather case etc… There were reports that they even gave defected, scratched or On Display one. They used to have this philosophy (not sure if still applies), was that: "Once crossed the sea, is God (or safe)". Those days, they know people shop there are mostly tourists like us. And tourists generally do not have the time for price survey. The only price reference is to prices back home (which are of course much more expensive), and easily lost in currency exchange calculations. They try to take advantage of it, in whatever way they can. Most of all, tourists will not find out (shortfall) until they left the country or to report it, or never find out. And once you pay for the goods, you don't even have to leave the shop, the money is gone.

Be careful when they recommend another merchandise which you really don't want to buy, buy they meant to oblige you to buy. Do compare it and its price with other store's!
