Hello,
I live in South Korea as an English teacher and am going to visit China at the end of July. My friend is living in a city called Taiyuan and I'll be staying with him.
I've never been to China before and, although I love adventure, I need some info to help me out.
I'll be arriving in Beijing and need to get to a bus station that will take me to Taiyuan.
Is the best way to take a taxi from the airport?
Also, I've found out that there are a few bus stations and, after searching on the net for hours, haven't been able to figure out which one will take me to Taiyuan.
If anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.
Thanks for everyones time,
Leah

Hi,Leah
I don't think by bus is a good idea. I think by train is more comfortable and safe and fast.

Below are the time table of train from Beijing to Taiyuan.

Train number departure time arrive time
2519 19:43 05:18(next day)
N201 21:13 07:30(next day)
N203 19:00 03:52(next day)
N277 21:40 07:00(next day)

If you take a taxi from the airport, it will cost you about 15 US dollars.
There are many shuttle bus from the airport to the center of Beijing, it only need 2 dollars.

Further questions, be free to contact me.

Thank you sooooo much for writing back!!! Even my Lonely Planet guide to China doesn't do much good.
Just a few more questions.....if you don't mind....
I'll be arriving at Beijing airport around 1400 (if the flight goes as planned) so are there any earlier trains?
Are there signs in English telling me what shuttle bus to get on?
What is the train station name?

Thanks again for helping me out!!! It's been really hard trying to find this info!!!

Kind Regards,
Leah

Only these four trains starts off after the arrival time of the plane you will take, and others start out in wee hours at about 6:00am.

Take the shuttle bus from the airport to the Dong Zhi Men stop, and get on the No.823 from Dong Zhi Men to the Beijing West Train Station ("Beijing Xi Zhan" in Chinese). And then take the train to Taiyuan.

Hey...thanks!!
ummm....I was hoping to get to Taiyuan as soon as possible. Is everyone sure that the bus is not faster? I'm not worried about being comfortable as long as I get there fast. I was hoping to be in Taiyuan on the same day if possible.
Any thoughts??
Thanks again....this message board is helping out so much :)

Take 811, 901, 541, 50, 300, 323, 324 to Li Ze Bridge or Dong Guan Tou, and at the Li Ze Bridge Long-distance Bus Station you can find the direct bus to Taiyuan!
