Lanzhou City - The smoking City

Lanzhou City is growing into a industrialised city. However the dust and smog is so bad nowadays.

The city is covered with smog and haze. Reports said that breathing the air in Lanzhou City is like smoking 2 packets of cigarettes a day.

You are right, California. When I was in Lanzhou (1996~2001) almost all the big factories (chemical plants, fuel refinery etc) got collapsed - caused a lot of people being laidoff =(.

Those plants were all located in Xigu Dist. about two hours' drive from the downtown area, even if they didn't collapse, they won't cause much pollution to the major part of the city.

During winter time, the general heating system causes a lot of dust(not smoke) over the city every year, like most other cities in north China. But in summer, Lanzhou is very beautiful and clear, and the weather is cool!!

Please visit Lanzhou in Summer!:-)

Lanzhou and Guangzhou are both end of "Zhou"!
