![]() | My name is Brett and I am from Australia . I was lucky enough to stay here for a week and it was the most enjoyable part of my China trip. Centred in busy Shanghai it is a perfect location to explore and shop, or just relax awhile, amongst the friendly locals. I stay with a local family, this traditional Chinese apartment is perfect for the first time traveller or someone returning to Shanghai , seeking a great central location, with only five minutes to the bund and Nanjing road. I look back on my stay here with fond memories. Run by a friendly English speaking proprietor, she did nothing but help. As well as having traditional Shanghai dishes cooked for me in their shared kitchen, I was taken to some fantastic local restaurants that I could never have entered with my limited Chinese. While catching up on some shopping, I returned home to clean laundry and a friendly well kept flat. The home stay offered me recommendations on where to visit, what to see and cheapest possible way to do things. After several recommended and organized short trips to Suzhou and Huangshan mountains, I was taken personally to Hangzhou , and given an insiders tour of this wonderful city, finally being accommodated with another local family in their traditional flat and enjoying a wholesome Hangzhou dinner. It was great to plan my itinerary and trips with friendly and efficient local knowledge, guaranteeing to not pay those inflated ‘foreigner' prices. Even my cheap plane ticket back to Hong Kong was booked for me and home delivered the next day. If anyone is seeking to distance themselves from the bustle and pressure of organized tours and hotel accommodation, then this is the home stay for you. your guys can also get such information from a website: www.tophomestay.org, it is free to register i guess. ![]() |

![]() | Re, Paul, it is not cheaper than hostel, because you gotta to have your own room, the most important thing is you can practice your mandarin, and make a relationship with the local people, a quad-sharing bed in hostel is about 60 RMB per night, for the homestay, it costed me 150 RMB a night last time, include 2 family meals, of couse it is negotiable if you would like to stay longer. I dont know many homestay operators in China, the only one i known is TOP organization, the website is www.tophomestay.org, no placement fees needed. it is quite reliable, they helped me to choose some host families in Xian and Hangzhu a few days ago, that is all i can tell you, i hope it helps. |
