I'm trying to learn Russian using a CD program called the Rosetta Stone. I like it because you can learn the writing at the same time as listening/speaking. There is also the ability to use a microphone and compare your pronunciation to the true pronunciation using the sound frequencies.

The CD is rather expensive but I am finding it useful. Check out their website at:

If I am in your situation, I will get some book about basic Chinese words and grammar to read to have a whole view , get some resoure to learn the pronunciation, surely this need to learn pinyin. When know how to read, get some Chinese text with English comments and read them aloud. Then I think I am on the way.
