Ye,ioni, It is called Kunqu or Kunju, and not comes from Kunming,I think it comes from a small city named Kunshan, maybe you know it!It belongs to Suzhou, but near to shanghai! I don't know the place where has this performance! But usually,it is held in theater or culture palaces! Good choice!

Here's where you can see Suzhou pingtan (which is story-telling, not Kun opera though): 1) Suzhou Pingtan Museum (评弹博物馆) at Zhong1 Zhang1 Jia1 Xiang4 (中张家巷). To find it, head east from Guanqian Jie (the pedestrian shopping street in central Suzhou), cross Lindun Lu (临顿路), head into Daru Xiang (大儒巷) and then cross Pingjiang Lu (平江路). The museum is also next to the Kunqu Museum (this might be of more interest to you!) 2) Guangyu Story Place (Guang1 Yu4 Shu1 Chang3 光裕书场) at Gong1 Xiang4 Di4 Yi1 Tian1 Men2 (宫巷第一天门) 3) Plum Bamboo Story Place (Mei3 Zhu3 Shu1 Chang3 梅竹书场) at Shi2 Lu (石路)

No, I don't think I'll qualify as a fan. However, I study at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, faculty of traditional Chinese instruments, and this is a little part of one of our prescribed modules. I can sing a little of Kun opera and Suzhou pingtan.
