im looking to maybe go to west sichuan, where there is some
tibetan influence, has anybody been there before that can tell
me something about how to get there and good places to go?

There are useful articles and ideas under the Sichuan section of this website (use the destinations window on the left and select sichuan).

Of course, it depends what you are looking for, but Jiuzhaigou is a beautiful destination. It has a Tibetan monastery (Zaru Si) and the villages and people reflect the style. Better if you can stay overnight in the park to get a real feel for things (and walk, rather than taking the bus, otherwise you'll miss the monastery). This is inside the park, outside is a different story, though a useful comparison.
