Visiting China during Chinese New Year??
Jan 4, 2006 18:27
Hello! I'm thinking of visiting Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai between the period from 31 Jan - 10 Feb, can I check if most stores will be closed during this period or will it be too crowded as I understand that China will be on a 1 week holiday from 29 Jan??

No store will be closed during this period but most of them will be open till midnight. But they will be tooooo crowded cos almost all the people are on holiday.
Relax and enjoy!
Cheers! Happy New Year!

hey, PEACETINKLYELF, why not visit Hainan, the only tropical city in China. It is said that Sanya is the 'Eastern Hawaii', which is the most famous tourist city of Hainan. So many foreigners come here for celebrating Christmas & New Year every year.

If you want to know more about Sanya, please have a look at this 'www.chinasanya.com'. It's about Hainan, the southernmost city in China, really very very beautiful........

Welcome to Hainan!

Hello
You want to visit China during Spring Festival.I just know that the stores in Beijing usually prolong the time till midnight. But the weather in Beijing is a little cold. You'd better take enouge clothes to warm yourself.
The people usually have 7 holidays during the Spring Festival.Though most places are crowded, you can have a chance to know more about China.
I live in Beijing,if you need more help, just tell me.
I hope you can have a good experience in China.

Hi Peacetinklyelf (great name!)

I too will be travelling around China during the Spring Festival. I think it will perhaps be crowded on the trains, but winter is generally a good time to travel :) I can't wait!

The best advice I can give you for China in general is not to plan too much, because something usually happens (ie: you can't get a plane/train ticket) and you have to stay somewhere for longer than you intended. Best to just go with the flow...

Have a brilliant time.
