in GE you can add placemarks with comments attached to it. These placemarks can be saved as KML files. The nice thing is that if you put such a KML file online you can share it with others through Google Maps.

See http://maps.google.nl/maps?tab=wl&q=http://www.deputsjes.nl/beijing.kml for an example of my Beijing file. Put the viewer in satellite view, because the map is a little shifted.
