I just worked it all out in GBP, posted it and lost the message :( I can remember though the total, using CHEAPEST (eg: cigarettes/wine etc) options of everything I could find at the supermarket chain I usually use in the UK. Total: £42.10 OR 606RMB (Rate £1=14.4RMB) OUCH!!!!

GUEST23926	side note to those coming to china. NEVER EVER buy cigarettes as cheap as those mentioned here. ones less than at least 5 rmb usually have additives and fillers that would be illegal in your countries. Everything from plastic to sand has been found in the 2rmb packs. Be careful, other than that it's usually a pretty cheap country compared to the US at least.

Hey Ben, I know its been a long time since your first post. But when we look back, it even more interesting how the cost of living is increased in PRC. I was in Shanghai in Feb 2012 and here are the cost that I have been through: RMB 7 = 1 x DVD - Kill Bill Vol.2 DVD9
RMB 10 | RMB 9 = 1 x DVD - King Kong DVD9
RMB 20 | RMB 2 = 1 x Packet of cigarettes (20)
RMB 50 | RMB 9 = 1 x 12 Packet of Colombian coffee sashays
RMB ? But you know the quality | 5 = 1 x Milk powder 250g
RMB 12 | RMB = 4 x 250ml flavored milk/yogurt
RMB 5 | RMB 3 = 1 x Punnet of fresh mushrooms approx 350gms
RMB 15 | RMB 6 = 1 x Punnet of fresh strawberries approx 250g
RMB 30-100 | RMB 4 = 1 x bag of nuts 300g
?? | RMB 3 = 1 x bunch of choi-sum approx 250g
from RMB 50 | RMB 9 = 1 x bottle (750ml) of 9%vol Greatwall sweet red wine - a tasty drop!
from RMB 15 | RMB10 = 1 x approx 350g Bacon
from RMB 18 | RMB10 = 1 x approx 350g Pork
no idea | RMB 7 = 2 x Packet of m&ms

btw, where were you in 2005 in China?:)
