Traveling during May day

A friend and I are planning a three week trip to China, we are coming from Canada. We'd like to fly into Shanghai and out of Beijing. We are concerned about travelling during May day. Should we postpone our trip until after May 7th, or is it worth experiencing May day? How difficult is it to get a hotel, or transportation?

Any advice or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

If you are flexible on your holidays, I think you should postpone it till May 7, there is not worth to experience the May day holidays, you will waste a lot of time WAITING.

If you are not in a scheduled group tour, the transportation is really a big concern.

Yes, Rita is right!! If you want to experience many many PEOPLE, you can come during the May day holiday. LoL

IMO, fewer people is better!

Transportation and accommodation can be a big problem if you have no prearrangement during the May day holiday.
If you really want to come, make a reservation first!!

I think transportation and accommodation aren't big problem!

The biggest problem that there were so crowded in every place!And you will feel uncomfortable when you visiting interesting places,you have to queue visiting some places,for example,forbidden city,summerplace,Great Wall......

I think if you time was flexible,pls aviod the golden week!

agree with all of them :P

what's more ,Canada is a country which has far less population than China ,if it is your first trip to China and it happen to be in May ,wow~~ you will see the number of people in one day more than you've ever met in your life ,hehe~~

One big problem is that it would be crowed, you may not even move a step in some sightseeing spots like badaling great wall.
Accommodation is fine, if you are flexible.
