| I am sure one didn't volunteer. The thought of it brings tears to the eyes. When the first Emporer of Chin discovered his mother had a lover he sentenced him to become a Eunuch. They shaved his head, plucked out his eyebrows and beared to give him a Eunuchs appearance. That in its self doesn't sound pleasant, not as bad as the full treatment though! |

| They were referred as precious not for nothing. When they were removed from the man's body on becoming an eunuch, the 3 precious were carefully cleaned & preserved. They were normally securely kept until claimed upon the eunuch's retirement. However, esp towards the end of the Qing Dynasty ( towards the late 19th century )there were beliefs that these precious when dried & grind to powder and fed to the then emerging "hong mao gui" would prevent them from bullshitting. But it was too precious to waste on them. So it was not proven that this was effective. |
