Crossing China's Busy Roads And Live.

VENUS2000 Points: Join Date: Dec 4, 2005 Status: offline	Crossing Beijing or China's roads is never easy for a tourist. I find it very scary. It seems like there are no traffic rules. So here's my guide to stay alive when crossing the roads. 1.Cross only at traffic intersections, if possible. 2.Stand at the side of the road and wait. 3.Do not attempt to run across the road or the vehicles will run over you. 4.Make sure the road is clear before you start crossing 5.Look at the oncoming traffic and walk slowly. 6.Make sure you continue to look at the oncoming traffic to avoid being hit. 7.If the vehicle is coming fast, stop where you are and let the vehicle pass. (In China you have to give way to vehicles not the vehicles give way to you) 8.Move forward again after the vehicle has passed you. 9.Never run across the road if you want to live.

In the absense of other thrill seeking activities, my friends and I get a great kick out of safely crossing the busiest streets in Chongqing or anywhere else for that matter.

My biggest problem is the bicycles and pedicabs because we don't have them in CQ. I've often had very near misses with them.

Have fun.

No one wants to be responsible for hitting a foreigner!!!!!

But don't push your luck!!!!!

WCTMAN Points: Join Date: Dec 17, 2005 Status: Offline	Traffic lane dividers are not for vehicles but for pedestrians. These white lines indicate the best place to stand absolutely still when crossing multiple lanes. Use them.
