train or bus to Guilin?

Please share the best method of travel from HONG KONG to GUILIN.
If train, is there a direct one? Times?
If bus, what is the best bus company and what is the departure time?
I do not want to fly to Guilin.
Any recommendations for a budget but CLEAN ad SAFE accomodations for a single woman in HKG or Guilin would be most appreciated.

No, there's no direct train. Take a train/bus to Guangzhou/Shenzhen (very frequent), and then you can take a train to Guilin. If it's actually Yangshuo that you're after, you can take a direct bus from Guangzhou instead.

Train Shenzhen--Guilin:
T38/T39 1805--1030

Train Guangzhou--Guilin:
K36/K37 1736--0638
T38/T39 2104--1030

There're tons of cheap and good accommodation in Guilin, so you don't need to worry. Just pick one that you feel comfortable with and bargain.
