Hey that is a good question! I guess that makes it two questions: A) Can you rent a car from a rental company? B) Can you hire a local person to drive you around?

In, addition, you might want to consider a Taxi for most of your intra-city travel.....Hotel to resturants, hotel to shopping or scenic site etc..... Taxi fares are very inexpensive (by most western standards) and service convenient in most Chinese cities !!

Yes, traffic in many cities are quite hard. Especially during the rush hour. We drive on the right, and most of drivers respect others.

Don't drive in China's cities if you have a weak heart. And pedestrians have to give way to cars.

If you are new to China, heed the advice of the locals - don't try driving on your own in Chinese cities. The traffic rules are there but not well-implemented. Tho' there is order amidst chaos, don't try driving unless u wanna the experience. If u knock someone down, I don't know what to addvise u ! I think the Chinese tend to setle things amongst themselves rather than report to authorities for settlement. So unless u can fend for yourself, don't try. Take the cab, bus or trains or if necessary rent a chauffeur-driven car.
