| Hello fellow travelers. While participating in a study abroad in Beijing beginning next month, 3 classmates and I are planning on traveling within the mainland. During the National Holiday week in October, we plan on traveling from Beijing to Suzhou, to Nanjing, to Shanghai, and finally to Hangzhou (and back). We are looking into traveling by train, but are open to advice from those who know the area and/or transportation systems better than we. We arrive in Beijing on September 3rd, and are anxiously preparing for our travels. Anyone with any tips for traveling in these cities or any pre-traveling/packing advice, please respond. Thanks! |

| I think itis a little bit harder to buy and book the train ticket, even the air ticket at that time. Also the hotel will be crowded. |

| The National Holiday week is the busy time for both travel and transportation. And since you arrive Beijing so early, I think it is a good chance for you to know Beijing well. It is a large city, and have so many things in depth awaiting you. | Hangzhou's attractions are centred in the West Lake. The west lake is the most traditional and famous attraction in Hangzhou. If you go there for the first time, the west lake is a necessary option. you may find nearly 20 scenic spots around the West lake. even you cannot find all of the views of the west lake, just going around and visiting the parks of it may interesting enough. Except this, you may go to tea houses in Hubin road and bars and pubs in Nanshan Road. those are wonderful places for leisure and entertainment where you can enjoy the traditional oriental culture (tea houses) and modern Chinese urban life (bars and pubs). Finally, if you can stay longer, you may go to other thematic parks(e.g.Song City, Future World,or Hangzhou Paradise etc )and other attractions(e.g.Linyin temple,Taiziwan park etc) in Hangzhou. If you like shopping, Silk market, Wushan Road(for antiques and crafts)and Wulin Road(for female clothing)are good choices. |
