Short messages send via handphone plays havoc on the english language. Words are cut short or spelt incorrectly to shorten the text.

Eg :

Can I see you tonight?

becomes :

Can I C U 2nine?

Eg :

Would you like to go shopping this afternoon.

becomes :

Wud u lik 2 go shopin dis aftnoon.

There are many more words that are cut short. Many students have their own short-cuts that they understand themselves. Students now have a problem with the actual spelling of the words after all the SMSes.

Short-cut to the english language is inevitable when you use SMS. We cannot pretend that it doesn't exist. Whether you like it or not, it is here to stay. And no teachers in the world can do anything about it!!

I am sure many members in this Community have done it.

Wud U rite ur reply 2moro or 2day?
