GUEST01164 I wish to visit China during the year end. This will be our first visit. My family is very keen on seeing historical places and the marvels of China. I only have 10 days. We will be coming in from KL. What places do you suggest we visit.

You may consider of going to Beijng, Shanghai, Xian etc. Beijing and Xian has a lot of historial attractions.

You can refer to the following routes and then decide where you want to go:

GUESTSOOTYXS... I have family in China so I've been there frequently, and I'm planning a graduation trip there for this upcoming summer. My itinerary will be roughly the following:

*Note: I went to Beijing last year so I'm not including it in here, but I will give an estimate that 3-4 days is enough to visit the major places. These include: Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Wangfujing, Xiushuijie (Silk Market), Tiananmen, etc. It's easy to travel by yourself around Beijing with the subway system. Most of the main attractions are on Line 1 of the subway system, and you can transfer easily to other lines that can get you to other places (Summer Palace is not on Line 1; you need to transfer twice to get there. Don't worry, it doesn't take long, and the subway system is fast and cheap; you only pay 2 RMB to get on until you leave, unlike in Shanghai where the amount you pay is determined by the distance you travel). If you have children, if you go to any place that needs an entrance fee, bringing them there on Children's day (June 2, I believe) is free. If not, I think the fee for adults should be around 60 RMB but in some places (Summer Palace) you have to pay more to get access to different places in the park. Also, students who show IDs get discounts. You could always give them your driver's license and tell them that it's a student ID if you look like a student.

(~2-3 weeks)
-Fly to Shanghai, spend 3 days there (I have family here, so I go there every time I go to China (4x already), so I've seen pretty much everything there. I'd visit the Bund, Nanjing Road, Oriental Pearl Tower, and some other places that I don't know the names of in English.
-Go to Hong Kong. IMO, there isn't as much to see in Hong Kong as in other Chinese cities, so I'd only be here for 3 days. There's Disneyland to see there (I live near DisneyWorld, so there isn't much for me to see there other than for the Asian Disney experience). But one of my friends that I'm traveling with has family there so that's why I'm going.
-Go to Guilin for purely scenic visits. (~4 days)
-Go to Chengdu (and Jiuzhaigou which is extremely close to it) for scenic visits and for the national park that has the pandas there. (~4+ days)
-Go to Xian for the terra cotta warriors (~1-2 days)

I'd like to note that my destinations are determined party because of family connections, but these places are also generally known as the most strategically best places to visit in China in a short time. If I had more than this amount of time, I'd visit Lhasa in Tibet (the most gorgeous natural scenery ever) and up north to Harbin during the winter for their ice sculpture shows, as well as the Silk Road in the far northwest corner of China. I've been to Suzhou and Hangzhou already, but I would recommend going there, too.

Hi, we are planning a 2 month China trip staring early 3/2013. I don't want to miss anything! ;). We will start the trip in Hong Kong and will end up somewhere that has flights to Tokyo. I would be interested in suggestions as to where would be the best places to go and what would be the best route to take to see as much as possible. We like back country and do not really wish to spend a lot of time at "tourist" hot spots, yet we want to see the more famous China signature areas.

Thank you in advance!

George
