I am planning to do 2-months trip to China in October in Novembr starting in Hong Kong and finishing in Beijing visiting Yunnan, Sichuan,...

Can you tell me how much would this cost me? I am going on budget, not taking any organized tours.

How much is the bed per night, the train fare and costs like this.

What is cheaper, bus or train?

Is it true that there is a better rate for travelling cheques than for cash?

Thank you in advance

Maja, while, it really depends. I estimated it will cost your at least 2000 US Dollars for a 2-month stay within China. You also need to stay in budget hotels. There are international youth hostels within China now. (http://www.iyhf.org/iyhf_china_focus_gb.html. Find more on the information about youth hostels in China.) It may cost you about 20 RMB to 100 RMB per day for a bed. About transportation, i recommend trains, which are cheaper and safer than buses. Hard sleepers between major cities may cost hundreds Chinese Yuan. Traveller's check may be safer but not cheaper as fees may occur, not sure about this.
