what is VeriSign services?

i notice that there is VeriSign services newly added to this website , seem to ensure the information security via internet, but, how is that exactly going? the function, whom is it authorised by ? why businessmen give credit to that?
anyone who know well about that ,would you please explain in details , thanks ?

Jay, in the West we have been using the Internet for purchasing items online for many years. This company makes software that allows you to communicate sensitive (banking) information online so that no one can see or steal it. Think of their services as an "Internet Policeman".
