Hello,

I'm planning on travelling to China this
summer and have thought of two routes, but am not
sure how possible they will be.

1.start in Hong Kong train to shanghai, then
serveral train journeys through the centre of
China to Lahasa then back to Hong Kong??....

2.Start in Hong Kong then travel up the west
side of china through Sichuan to Lahasa and back
down to Hong Kong??

I was planning to travel mostly by train,
would I have to purchase a ticket in advance?
Really I'm just wondering what a non mandarin
speaking person would expect (I guess thats half
the fun) travelling alone through China?

Thanks.......Will

Either itinerary would be OK. Bring a good phrase book for your remoter places. You've got a few months to prepare so suggest you read a few of our travel reviews. After all that is what they are for and often recount some of the fun and difficulties others have in getting around with limited language.

You won't need to book anything before you arrive but if possible try to buy your tickets a couple of days in advance of travel if you are travelling on a popular route.

What are they you may ask?
Anything heading into or between major tourist destination!!!!!
