Generally speaking, if English-speaking foreigner first come to China for job, teaching English in some English training school as an Engligh teacher would be much easier than other job. But it doesn't mean that you can easily be a teacher only if you can speak some English. It also need some education background and base.
And if you want teach in university or college, it would be much hard than to teach in some school.

So good luck, and hope you can find a ideal job in China.

hello,
i'm not sure that i can totally reply to your answer but i can tell you my experience. i'm french and decided to go there another time to find a job. as you know, it's more easy to find one in a teaching position. But as say Daisy in her answer, i don't think it's because english is your native language that you're prepared to do it. i'm french and found a job as french teacher. I don't know what's your profile and backround. IN my CV, i've showed my experience in social working (i'm what we call in france "specialzed educator" and i've worked too in holiday camps. So i have cause of my studies and experience, serious notions of pedagogy, psycho-pedagogy... i think it helped me. Now, i gonna move to Bj in october.
about teaching english, you won't have any problem to find a job. there's not only schools or foreign languages school's that offer jobs. you can also find university in a lot of specializations (technical..) who look for people sometimes to teach in english the specific vocabulary for the profession.
well, now it's very late here :)
i'm sure that a lot of people will give you more information than me. but can ask more if u want, precise questions, i will tel you if i can help c u

i forgot to tell you, to go there and to have a "business visa" (to renew each six months), you need an invitation letter. school cannot provide it, cause they are schools. the plce where i gonna work got an Cie where they work in edition and translation, so through this, they can provide me the letter. i've hear that it's common for many Cie, where you have a friend's working 4 example, to make a "fake" letter.
thanks to the net, you can find a lot of positions in english (just type "teach english in china" or "teach in china" if u want a good meta motor for your seach link: http://eo.st example - it's more difficult for french and go there in bj was the best way.
c uand good luck :)
