HI I will hike the Jinshanling simatai stretch on September 1 and 2. I see one can sleep in a watchtower on Jinshanling. Is this nearer to the jinshanling section, or Simatai. I want to know which side to start my hike from. Thanx Chris

you idea sound so cool! But do you think it is secure to stay over night on the watchtower? I found a itinerary about this hiking from Jinshanling to Simatai. And it starts from the Gubeikou. They suggest that take long distance bus at the Dong Zhi Men to Mi Yun, and then transfer the middle bus to Gubeikou in Mi Yun County.

Dear Daisy Thank you for replying so quickly...yes I know its a risk, but I got the information (with his cellphone number) off the internet and will get my boss (whose native Chinese is better than my taiwanese version) to phone the man and find out. But, I see you are from Xian, which is where I will go after the Great wall, to do Hua Shan. So I have another question... Should I take a taxi direct from the Xian airport to HuaShan, or should I go into the city to arrange transport? (I arrive in the afternoon, about 3.30pm) I would appreciate any help I can get from a local person. Wode Zhongwen bushe henhao, Xie xie. Chris

| There is a web site that shows the Jinshanling - Simatai hike in 360-degree panoramas - http://www.thebeijingguide.com/ Also they have good information about sleeping in a watchtower near Jinshanling. http://www.thebeijingguide.com/ I think you want to start in Jinshanling, sleep in the watchtower there then wake up and do the hike to Simatai. | I want to do this hike tomorrow.. Do you have the details for the route? Where it starts and ends, whether it is a marked route or you just find your way...any place to get water on the way or not... any other information that might be useful.. Thanks |

I have been organising the hiking for many times and experienced. You had better start from Simatai and end in Jinshanling, about 4 hours walking. You need to buy tickets for different sections and 5 yuan admission to pass the bridge. But the view and the walking itself is grand. You had better take some bottles of water with u.

The route from Jinshanling to SimataiGreat Wall is recommended. The Jinshanling Great Wall connects with the Simatai Great Wall at its east and the Gubeikou Great Wall at its west. It is about 10 kms. This part is called the paradise of photographers and shutterbugs. Especially from May to October, it is the best time to see the attractive scene there. Many Great Wall lovers have hiked this part of the wall. If you hike the part, be sure to take gloves to prevent the thrones. And also sufficient water is necessary. There are no trees on the wall, so be aware of sunburn.
