Hainan local specialties: Pearl, Crystal, Seafood, fruit, tea, shell & coconut handicraft, etc.

I don't think I can visit Hainan in the near future, but I will for sure.:-) I tried seafood in Xiamen already:)

thank you, Rita, it's a very good question. And Belle'S answer is very helpful. other local things to buy are ox horn handicraft, shell carvings and the li ethnic's brocade. seafood is not permitted to be taken onto the plane.

Hey, HAIKOURAINY, I'd like to let you know it is allowable to take seafood onto the plane. I have done it before.

Rita, if you want, you just need to pack it well. I'm planning to take some seafood to my hometown when I go home this year. : )

Good way to carry seafood is freeze it and wrap well in old newspapers - yes newspapers and you'll be surprised how long it will stay frozen while you travel.

Thank you, Belle, very good info, I don't think i will really take seafood back home from anywhere, though. If I go to Hainan, i try seafood as much as I can there...

PS. I didn't know you were not local Hainanese:) Where is your hometown by the way?
