want to travel to tibet by land from Yunnan

I'm looking for people who also want to travel to Lhasa by land (from destinations in Yunnan or Chengdu). It's to expensive if I want to do it on my own. Tips are also welcome.

i am interested to know about overland travel from chengdu to lhasa also, as it is really expensive to go buy air =/

is the scenery along the way nice?
how long does it take and how much?

There were four road to Lhasa:

Qing-Zang Road:From Germu to Lhasa;

Chuan-Zang Road:From Sichuan to Lhasa;

Dian-Zang Road:From Yuannan to Lhasa;

Xin-Zang Road:From Xinjiang to Lhasa.

It is possible to go to Lhasa from Yunan!

The fare from Chengdu to Lhasa by Train is :

Hard seat : Rmb 389
Hard Bed : Rmb 813
Soft Bed : Rmb 1282

The journey is 48 hours.
You need to re-check the fare at the train station. The pricing here might be for the locals.

Hi Monique, and everyone out there that said they were also interested. Has anything come of it yet? I am in Dali at the moment and would really love to go overland into Tibet. It sounds like an incredibly beautiful trip!! I have found quotes for just over 5000 RMB each for four people. I would ideally like to leave between the 7th and 15th of August. Anyone interested??
Ps am a 24 year old English girl escaping real life for 8 months.

This could be amazing! If you're interested or need an extra person for your trip let me know!

Its expensive... about 6k from zhongdian, 8k from chengdu. only 1700 from golmud.

Can I have more details too? I'll be at Lhasa from 3 Sept onwards and is looking for all the possibility of extending my stay in Tibet...
