Yes, there are both night trains and day trains from Kunming to Lijiang. It will be warm in May and hot in the day time. About the clothes, short-sleeve T-shirt in day time and a long-sleeve one at night. You'd better bring a coat too, just in case. Also an umbrella and sunscreen cream are recommended.
