I am travelling to Beijing and one of the things I am going to do when I first arrive is to buy a digital camera but as I live in australia and I do not know whether if I buy one from there that it will be compatible with my computer back home. I will be appreciated if anyone will be able to enlighten me on this subject.

Why are you buying a digital camera in Beijing??? I don't know about prices in Australia, but European prices for good cameras are the same as the prices in China... Beijing prices for "real" brands are not as cheap as often people think, here it's not as in Singapore or Malasya! I also thought the same the first time I arrived Beijing, and all my family wanted me to buy for them cameras, videocameras, all you can imagine...but just for 10 o 20 euros less, it's not worth to buy an expensive camera in a foreign country. But I guess, that's always up to you... Good luck with your research, and if you find any cheap one (excluding the "fake" market ones), let me know! ;)

I agree with others here !! I think you may be better off to purchase your camera, either at a discount retail store in the AU, or maybe even via an on-line purchase. I know you do not have Wal-Mart in Australia (yet-ha ha) however, a similar discount outlet is the way to go. Also, I believe there is an on-line venue called ‘Dirt Cheap Cameras’ in the AU, which will ship within 24 hours. I purchased my Fuji-film S-3500 digital camera at a Wal-Mart store in my city; it is a 4.23 MPX camera with many features and is for the intermediate level user, and it utilizes an x-D memory card. I like this style camera because I have large hands and I can keep a good grip on the camera. I paid about US $300.00 for my camera, and another $19.00 for a Memory Card Reader, which plugs directly into the home computer. And as wocca stated, the card reader will come with a CD to integrate it to your computer. Then you can edit, store to your hard drive, and/or print your photos on your color printer if you wish. Or, you can just take the card from the camera to your local film processing center for fast prints and transfer to a CD, which then frees up your expensive memory card for new images. Have fun !! :) :)

The prices are much the same as Australia. Plus if you spend over $300 for the camera in Oz and the purchase is within 30 days of your departure date, you can claim the tax back before you leave using the customs TRS scheme.

I think the price was closely! You'd better buy it in your places for living,if it has problem after purchasing, you can find the service easily!

yeah , I think you'd better buy it in your country , searching for a good one cost time and energy , why not save the time and enjoy your trip more in China ? and if you buy it in AU , the price is almost the same but you may have more time to familiar with your new DC . Happy snapping :)
