Hi, I have been to Nanning twice in the past two years and I have made some inquiries about the train.

Here is what I know, until someone else has more info for you !! LOL

There are at least two or three trains per day from Nanning to Guangzhou. It takes approx. 12 to 14 hours on this route, depending on time of day and other rail traffic delays on the main line.

Then, once in Guangzhou, there are several trains each day (very modern I am told) which run to Hong Kong. This is about a two hour train ride, on the Guangdong Line.

Hope this helps some !! I really like Nanning !!

yes, u have to take a train to Guangzhou first. There are three trains to Guangzhou, I found the information from Internet:

K363 starts from Nanning at 23.55 and arrive at Guangzhou at 11.48. Hard Seat: RMB 96; Soft Seat: RMB 152; Hard Sleeper: RMB 175; Soft Sleeper: RMB 267

K229 starts at 10.04 and arrive at 21.09. Hard Seat: 89; Soft Seat: 141; Hard Sleeper: 161; Soft Sleeper: 247

2572 starts at 17.17 and arrive at 06.14. Hard Seat: 94; Soft Seat: 154; Hard Sleeper:185 and soft sleepr: 286

The price may change during the holidays, so you'd better ask for details before booking or buying.

Good luck!

If I were you, I would travel from Nanning to Shenzhen by train.

The train number is T37/T40, the departure time is 20:00 and the arrival time is 11:47. You may find the information in travelchinaguide.com: http://travelchinaguide.com/china-trains/viewd.asp?tid=T37/T40&tt=kttk&s=guilin&e=shenzhen

Then from Shenzhen walk trough the HK border. It is easy and money saving.

Bruno,

Surprisingly there seems to be none direct (or not in service at the moment..) from the HK airport to Zhanjiang, a city appeared to me quite popular... after verifiying with the airport site.

if that's the case you might have to transfer to downtown Hong Kong (there are certainly such buses in Mongkok) or Shenzhen bus station. where there are buses in every half hour or so to that city
