I plan to arrive in Dunhuang at the beginning of August 2006 for 2
days.. I like to take pictures but don't like to have too many
tourists around me. Should I do sun rise or sun set photography
at the Sand Dune?

Not as other tourist highlights in China, Dunhuang does not attact many travelers every year as you imagined. But August is during its 'peak season'. THere will be many locals, Japanese, people from South East Asia as well as westeners.

I'd say sunrise, in this case.
