 | hi would someone be able to translate the following address into chinese charaters?... Shanghai City Central Youth Hostel (Utels) No.300 Wuning Road,Putuo District, also do taxis take american dollers?... i have been told that everywhere does, but jsut want to check! ]]thanks! |

| Hello, hopefully this is helpful. If you have any trouble translating English to Chinese, just search for titles like "online translator or chinese translator" in internet browsers. You don't need an expert to do that haha. In regards to paying USD for taxi rides, I suggest you just pay yuan. That way, it's easier for the driver and yourself. You don't want people to see you carrying all those USD with you...you'll just make yourself vulnerable for robberies. Plus, I don't think the driver will give you USD change in return haha. Even at buying items at the airport in China, when paying with USD, your change will be in yuan. | I reiterate that the hostel is not in a convenient location, especially re public transport. If you choose to believe otherwise, so be it... I can't force you to believe me. |

| well accomodation choice is out of my hands for this one! just a crash place for me post 16 hours travelling and before meeting friends in shanghai, its been kindly booked for me ! hence having no idea where it is etc ! |

But I was always told, and it has been my experience, that you [cannot] utilize American currency, “everywhere” and freely within China !!?? This is why they have the exchange at Banks, Hotels, and official venues for currency exchange. Moreover, I think any attempt to do this would most surely result in one of the parties to the exchange, being short-changed, many Dollars possibly !!?? I am concerned that some people may be provided inaccurate information herein. |

| hi, i too have received contradictory advice, i have been told to take american doller traveller cheques, so this will be my main means of currency and shal get these changed as soon as on arrival! otherwise i would rather use chinese currency! |

| Ha ha ha.... you old boys who all need to rest.... after many hours "resting" in a comfortable 747???? I know it took me 2 or 3 days to come back down to Earth, no pun intended !! I was far too excited to "rest".... also, don't have all your Yuan in 100's, a taxi driver will expect you to get smaller change, and will NOT want to change large bills for you... a good idea is to buy a small bottle of drink at the airport, and pay with a large bill, then you will be given smaller bills in change.... Ahhhh, did you know?? you can ask the taxi driver for a reciept??? he is obliged to give you one if you ask, then it will prevent him from 'ripping you off...' |

| I'd say that your friend who kindly booked you the hostel has a pretty bad sense of locations in Shanghai. Or maybe, is it right beside where your friend lives? Taxis won't take USD cash, much less USD travellers' cheques! |
