i'll be at china in august to go to university. i'm wondering if one of you can give me any opinion about the city life at guangzhou. thanks

Guangzhou is one of the most famous cities in China. Although I haven't been there before, I learn that it is a big, modern and prosperous city. Of course a hustle and bustle city like most of big cities in the world.

I think cities only have 'a few' differences. For most of aspects, they are the same.

U are from Jakarta. U should like GZ and can accept it quite easily - esp if u can speak Chinese.
It is a vibrant city for the young and business men. It is more liberal than in Jakarta, I think. No restrictions on almost anything, except things illegal. Smoke if u want; take alcohol if u prefer ; eat what u want, nobody cares, ++++ wow !!
A lot of hot night spots to spend your idle time.
I think safety-wise, it is better than Shenzhen & Jakarta !
