Wi-Fi access in south Chengdu

I'll be in Chengdu soon. I intend to stay at the Traffic Hotel as it is placed next to the south bus station. Does anybody knows where I could access a wi-fi network in the vicinity?

While I'm here,... I bought a China Mobile SIM card in 2004 and
during both my stays in 2004 & 2005 I haven't been able to send or
receive SMS to/from abroad. What's the trick?

there are so many sim card in china , there are strict limit between different network , and inside china and aboard,sometimes , you want to send a text to another network user in china, you need to add some code before it, and there are differents between province,so what kind of sim did you buy?

I got the SIM card from China Mobile in Lhasa in july 2004. I was
able to buy pre-paid recharges in 2005.
The number is 1365899XXXX, maybe it can help to identify the
network.
Since I'll have to buy recharges anyway, do you think I should get a
new SIM card to allow me to SMS outside China?

sorry .the number you have bought is only can be used inside Lhasa, it is limited in that province,.when you want to send sms ouside this area , you need to buy a sim which is called global using something similar like that,

It was no problem to use the phone outside Lhasa (Chengdu,
Beijing). I could even phone abroad with it. The problem was only
with SMS.

And the wi-fi? Is that French Café far from the Traffic? I read
somewhere that they had wi-fi with broadband. Actually a place
with PC's and broadband would be ok too. Last time I was there,
the connection in the Traffic was really too slow.

What about dial-up? I was recently told that I could connect to the
16300 number from any phone line in China without needing a
pre-registration. Is it true?

i am confused now , you can phone aboard but you can not recieve any sms, may be you did not put the correct country code or something.
16300 is kind of pre-paid ,it charges from the monthly telephone payment, it is more expensive than unlimited monthly boardband,and it is slowly.but it is easy , you don't need to register, only need a telephone landline.

SIM cards in the series 131 to 139 are national Chinese numbers and can be used anywhere in the country and recharged with prepaid bought anywhere in the country. Just check the prepaid dial up number and expiry date n the cards.

Sorry I can't help you with the SMS as I've not bothered to try it. It may be something to do with the country, and area code numbers. Sometimes you have to drop 0's from the number

Some of the big hotels offer broadband or wireless connection but at a price. If you have your own laptop then Hilton has been know to give wireless for free.

Wi-Fi is available in the small cafe in front of the Traffic Hotel, I'm
posting from there. No idea of the price though :-0
