Was just reading a brief article on the most recent ex CEO of KMPG - a USAmerican MNC.
He was on top of the world as CEO of 1 of the biggest companies in the world when he was diagnosed with cancer of the brain and was given 3-6 months to live. He died 6 months later in Sept '05. of cos, he was shocked to learn of his fatal illness at first. But was able to internalise himself and settled down well(so it seemed) during the period before his fateful day. He wrote a book (which was completed by his wife) on how his entire outlook & lifestyle changed from the day he was told of his illness. It was quite a good read.
On reflection, knowing when one is going to die is not a bad thing. In fact, I think it is good that one knows when he/she is due.
In China, how do u treat life/death ? Do u agree that it is helpful if life's span can be programmed ?

At least I don't want to know my destiny at all. I can't bear it at all.

I guess that no one wants to die. At least I don't want to know that I only have several months to live or similar. Life is so good anyway.

I really love to know that someone makes a great invention to programme our life span. That will be amazing.

Indeed almost all of us do not want to die. But why, esp when we know that we WILL die, eventually ?
I think I would rather know when I am going to die than not knowing :-
1. A peace of mind
- the reason we do not want to die is mainly because we are scared. Of cos, for those who enjoys the pleasure of life, then dying is something they won't welcome, obviously. Yet for the suffering ones, they also do not wish to die. Is death really that bad ?!
2. Facilitate life planning - how nice if u know when u should spend your last cent instead of keeping it for eventuality & for somebody else who will spend it for u !

In the case of the ex CEO of KMPG, on realising that he was due to die, he accepted it and went on to enjoy his last days with his loved ones - something that he couldn't/didn't when he was fit and healthy. His loved ones shared the joys they missed when he was healthy - allround benefit.
Hahaha !! Think about it.

If you are feeling suicidal now, please stop long enough to read this. It will only take about five minutes. I do not want to talk you out of your bad feelings. I am not a therapist or other mental health professional - only someone who knows what it is like to be in pain.

I don’t know who you are, or why you are reading this page. I only know that for the moment, you’re reading it, and that is good. I can assume that you are here because you are troubled and considering ending your life. If it were possible, I would prefer to be there with you at this moment, to sit with you and talk, face to face and heart to heart. But since that is not possible, we will have to make do with this.

I have known a lot of people who have wanted to kill themselves, so I have some small idea of what you might be feeling. While we are together here for these few minutes, I won’t argue with you about whether you should kill yourself. But I assume that if you are thinking about it, you feel pretty bad.

Depressive disorders make one feel exhausted, worthless, helpless, and hopeless. The first thing to keep in mind is the depressed person cannot help feeling depressed.

I would venture to say if that CEO was a Chinese and lived in China, he would never know he went to the bad, fatally until the day he died. The doctor would not tell the truth to himself but to his families. Then his loved ones would take the pressures of about to lose him all to themselves.

Chinese treat the dying good, or they(we) think the way they treat their dying loved ones good. They intend to spend more time with him, do whatever to please him, cook whatever he likes... think about it, in the late night, when he sleeps sound and has beautiful dreams, calling his loved one's name... all she might do is crying in silent.

To say 'Someone has right to know something' - I heard this most from foreingers - is right in theory, but we Chinese simply don't think so.

There is a saying in Chinese, 人之将死,其言也善。When someone is about to die, he intends to become more honest and pure-hearted. He should be forgiven for all he did in life, "he is about to die, what do you want??"

You know what? It's depressing talking about life and death. (See? lol I am the one could not bear the light of death)

Hope you all a long and healthy life:-)

You know that when I was very little, I thought that I was eternal. I would never die. Funny right? I guess all of you had the same idea with me when you were little.

When I grew up I got to know that I could leave this beautiful world some day. It is really a depressing and terrible thing for me.
