Tickets for boat on The Grand Canal

Hi!

I'm planning to go to Hangzhou together with my family next summer, and from there overnight to Suzhou by boat on The Grand Canal. My question is: is it possible to book tickets/a cabin for the boat in advance, preferably on the internet? Alternatively, has anyone got a telephone number to a place where a reservation can be made in english?

Have you already been to the canal ? I just checked with a chinese friend. It isn't possible to book the ticket in advance, nor to make reservation through th Internet, unfortunately.
Maybe I am also going there on 16/17. June.

I'd be interested in any information you have on this and maybe worth posting up as travel tip under Suzhou and Hangzhou if there is good information about duration of trip, booking, costs, contacts etc,

Larry9, you're correct about the details, but for the wrong city! :)
Tickets can be purchased in Hangzhou at 8 Huancheng Beilu (telephone number 86-571-85153185) or 147 Huansha Lu (telephone number 86-571-87917586). The ferries leave from near Wulin Square at 1730 and reach Suzhou the next morning at 0700.

Hi, and thanks for your replies. I haven't been to China yet, I will go there on June 23 and return on July 18. My plan is to take the ferry from Hangzhou on July 1. I have tried to get in contact with Zhejiang China International Travel Service (I thought maybe they could arrange reservations), but so far without success.

A similar question: Does anyone know if it is possible to reserve tickets/a cabin on the overnight ferry from Shanghai to Putuoshan on the internet?

Just go buy the tickets when you arrive in Hangzhou, don't worry.
No, I don't think it's possible to buy the tickets for the Shanghai -- Putuoshan ferries online.
